Everyone deserves a place to call home. Whether you’re just starting out, raising a family, or hoping to retire in the same community where you built your life.
But right now, too many Kendall County residents are being priced out of the communities they’ve helped build. As our county grows, we need housing options that reflect the real people who live here.
Balanced Housing for a Balanced Community
This isn’t about just building more. It’s about building smarter.
We need housing policies that:
- Increase access to affordable options like apartments, townhouses, and modest single-family homes
- Expand low-income housing that fits within the character of our communities
- Encourage mixed-income developments that support diversity and inclusion without concentrating poverty
- Provide more accessible housing for seniors and people with disabilities, so they don’t have to leave the communities they love
Affordable doesn’t mean low quality, and inclusive doesn’t mean uncontrolled. It means being intentional about location, design, and long-term community impact.
A Smart County Role in Housing
The county can’t and shouldn’t try to control all housing decisions, but it can be a strong partner in the process.
As a county board member, I’ll advocate for:
- Coordinating with municipalities to develop a countywide housing strategy that respects each townships character and goals
- Leveraging county planning tools and zoning support to encourage the right kind of development in the right places
- Supporting programs and grants that make home repairs, first-time home ownership, or rental assistance more accessible
- Working with developers who are committed to balanced growth, not just quick profits
By working together, we can create a future where young families, working professionals, and lifelong residents all have a place in Kendall County.
Housing and Economic Growth Go Hand in Hand
Affordable, inclusive housing isn’t a charity project. It’s an economic strategy because when families can afford to live and work here, businesses thrive, our schools stay strong and our tax base grows in a sustainable way.
This ensures we can protect the long-term health of our economy by avoiding housing bubbles and economic isolation. Smart housing policy is how we grow with our community.
Let’s make sure everyone has a place at the table and a place they can call home.
